You learn it in class. You practice it with your tutor. Then you go to the market to use it. Then they say something not covered in the lesson. The other person is saying “this is a furniture store, please go next door”. Pray for missionaries as they minister in another tongue.

While everyone has worries, the Tanzanians I knew weren’t concerned with computers failing on Y2K. We stayed out from summer 1998 to 2002 without returning to the USA. Pray for missionaries who live away from extended family for years at a time.

The language you are born into, is the easiest language to you! Chinese, Russians, and Turks can all say their language is easy, they spoke it by age two, and taught it to their children. I experienced problems with Chinese, Russian, and Turkish.

A Baptist Speaks Fluent Mongolian!
Helen McNeely hosted a weekly television program in Mongolia 1993-4. I entertained with magic for one program in January 1994. I practiced the magic routines in Mongolian, but on the day of the filming, the co-host started asking questions about the magic as it took place which threw me off. So we filmed the show in English and dubbed it into Mongolian which made me to appear to speak fluent Mongolian!
